To Struggle Or Not To Struggle – Is That Really The Question?

Dear Richard,

What a beautiful metaphor for the transition I am now making!  Thank you.  I feel in good company as many of us on the planet, and the earth itself,  are in great shifts right now – yes, a rebirth.

You speak of trusting this new support system coming in as I transition into the fullness of having streams of income be completely from my own creative efforts.  This transition I am finding is a powerful one, and also one in which there are choices to be made while navigating the new territory.

Last week I had a dream that I was out in the ocean by myself happily swimming around when I was caught in a rip current.  At first I was afraid of drowning and struggled a bit to free myself from its grip.  Then I remembered that you are supposed to simply let go and allow the current to take you where it is going.  Once I surrendered there was no more struggle and I was carried quite rapidly to the point where the rip current ended and was once again back into calm waters where I could then swim back to shore.

This dream was clearly a gift from the unconscious to support me during a time last week when I was attempting to do a task that would have taken a very steep learning curve to perform well.  In the time constraint that I was under my frustration level grew with the stress of knowing what I wanted, but realizing that there was no way I was going to pull it off if I didn’t ask for help.

I could choose to struggle or I could ask for help and not struggle.  But  was that really the issue here?  What was more at stake was an attachment to being the one that could pull this off and save some money.  The attachment was causing the struggle in the first place.  Was I going to sink, swim, or merely let go and see what would arise as a resolution to the challenge I was facing.  I do believe that the solution or resolution to any problem is there before the problem…and so it was in this case.

I was attempting to format a website (in fact the Natural Wealth website) and didn’t have the expertise to do so in a timely way.  But, I did have a resource that was right at my fingertips.  This person had already done some beautiful formatting work for us.  As I released the attachment to being the one to pull it off, it became very clear what course of action should be taken.

As the choice was made to have this task done by a professional I became free of the attachment and was in fact able to swim in waters where I could be effective without the struggle.  Breathing eased and opened.  My frustration level went to zero.

My efforts were then much more effective because I was enjoying a challenge that inspired me (swimming freely in the ocean) instead of frustrating me (the rip current).  Someone else was handling what felt to me like a rip current, but to her was an enjoyable challenge.

I can truthfully say that this new support system is powerfully nourishing……. if only I remember to let go of the attachment of how I “should be” within it.  No struggle necessary.  Be breathed and follow the heart indeed! On that note I end with this quote:

The Breath of Life

The true miracle of life lies in the breath and in the ability to experience the divine within.  Question everything until you are sure that what you feel is informed by the true language of the heart and not a concept created by the mind.”
J M Hurley*

Dear Gaye,

This week an extract from our course Natural Wealth seems particularly appropriate:

“It all starts with a breath.  As you shoot out from your mother’s womb into the waiting arms of the delivery nurse, you move suddenly from a liquid world of warmth, darkness and vibration into one that is altogether different.  It’s quite a shock.  “What’s going on?” you say to yourself.  “What’s this strange stuff all around me?”

For a second your body resists.  It has got used to its life of liquid comfort and would rather “go back inside, thank you very much!”

Yet a part of you knows that this is where you are meant to be.  There is a moment’s pause as the umbilical cord is cut and the support-system that has nourished you for the past nine months is severed.

Then something occurs that has never happened to you before.

Something called air rushes down into your open mouth, hurtling down your oesophagus until it finds its way into your lungs.  Here it zooms about, inflating every bronchial tube until, like a pair of rubber gloves, your lungs swell up with this insubstantial, invisible stuff. As if by magic, air has become your new support system.

You have been, literally, in-spired.”

I’m sending you this quotation because it seems to me you are right at that stage when the new support system is about to rush through your body (and mind) as you make the transition from working in a regular job to earning your income independently. You are taking breath in a very new environment. It’s like being born all over again.

The transition from a life in liquid to one lived surrounded by air is one that we all make. And the message for you is to trust the process you are in the midst of, just as you trusted the process when you shot from your mother’s womb.

Be in no doubt that your new support system is just as nourishing and comfortable as the old one. Let the air fill your lungs. Be breathed. Then follow the promptings of the heart, for it is the heart not the mind that is the very first organ to grow…

With my love,
Richard.

The Wall That Is Not There

Dear Richard –

Sitting here with my cuppa Earl Grey tea I find myself reflecting on a very powerful dream that I had several years ago.  I call it powerful because it is still very clear to this day, and in fact is quite relevant right now as I find myself feeling that I am “up against a wall” and there is no room to see what is beyond it.

First my dream.  This dream came at a time when I was struggling to “find my way” to what in life would bring me joy and fulfillment.  I was traveling on a path to a place of “higher learning” and was one of many in a line walking along a dirt path through forest.

All of a sudden the path ended and a clearing was before us, but also a ledge with a steep cliff side below.  All of my attention was drawn to this quite treacherous abyss and as I looked over it I saw others attempting to climb or rappel down the cliff using all kinds of gear.  There was also a very narrow rock path that serpentined it’s way down, but as I watched these people they seemed to be struggling as well.

Now my decision had to be made as to how I was going to get down there in order to get to my destination.  I stood there and closed my eyes and asked for guidance.  As I did that a very low whisper coming from the vicinity of my heart said, “Look to your left”.

My eyes opened and I looked to my left (my feminine side).  There was a path that had appeared – or it was there all along, but I hadn’t been expanding  my vision into possibility.  As I traced the path with my eyes to my surprise I saw the “place of higher learning” was not far on this easy downward slopping road.  No struggle was necessary.  Simply a stroll to my “destination” – to awareness.

This dream sticks with me because it continues to provide the very clear guidance that I need when I seem to be stuck – up against a wall that feels immovable!

Whether cliff or wall they both represent to me the illusion that something is preventing me from moving forward.  That “something” certainly requires a lot of struggle, effort, and risk taking as well.  Something I need to conquer or dismantle in order to get past it or to the other side.

This “wall” for me right now is the seeming lack of not having streams of income flowing in to support me while I am busy in the creations stages.   I have to admit that my mind took me on one of those very scary roller coaster rides over the last couple of days, and the emotions that go with that were certainly felt as I looked at my bank balance!  I even caught myself thinking about applying for jobs!  But the difference this time around was that I could witness what my mind was doing and begin to detach from the feeling of “no room to move”.

When I found myself working with the texture, thickness, and architecture of this wall that I seemed to be pushing against it hit me that I needed to stop pushing….because there was no wall at all.  No wall blocking me from the unlimited resources and creative ideas that are there for me as close as my next breath.  It was only a construct of fear and scarcity.  It was only an illusion.  It was only that I had fallen out of trust.

Now I have decided that if my mind tries this little trick again I will simply put my hands up in the air on that roller coaster ride and laugh all the way down.  Do you think that will deconstruct the illusions??

With Love,
Gaye

Chaotic Wholeness: Handing Over My Life

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.~Albert Einstein

Dear Richard –

Something very powerful has settled within me.  It is actually astounding…and feels as if I have “come home” in the most profound way.  This is a home within that I know, dwelled in sporadically over the years,  yet couldn’t seem to stay in.

For you the reader, let me just say that this “home sanctuary” inside brings me heightened pleasure in all that I do and a sense of deep belonging – not necessarily to the world that we can all see, but instead to something much larger that cannot be explained in words.  It is that interconnection that you Richard speak of.

How did this happen?  I understand in a more embodied way now that this chaotic wholeness that you speak of Richard resonates within me and all living things in the cosmos.  I understand that there is an order present within the seeming disorder….inside and outside of me.  Yet, I did not trust this order.  Instead, for most of my life, I felt that I must control things in life to stay “safe” and “secure” – a belief/thought systems approach to guaranteeing that I would never feel fully free.

I too know deep within my cells that everything is interconnected.  This interconnection and attraction is happening in every moment.  Now I feel it!  It is not just mind talk….it is heart whispering!  What happened to nudge me where I am now staying within myself??

Since I can make up any story I want (and mind you I am aware it is only a story)  here goes.  I have literally handed over my life to inner guidance, outward signs and messages, and following wherever my heart takes me. Along with that goes complete and absolute TRUST.  Not just some of the time, but all of the time.

Oh, yes I catch my mind cooking up schemes to take me into fear, lack, or anxiety, but thankfully I must have passed some sort of God/Spirit/Creator test because it amazingly doesn’t stick.  My mind is turning back flips trying to get my attention…but baby I am not buying the old beliefs being paraded out in new clothes and razzle dazzle in an attempt to disguise the true agenda here – to keep me stuck, in doubt, anxiety ridden, fear based, and in a carefully constructed box for safe keeping.

Could it be as simple as that I ask?  Well if you were living my life right now you would have to take notice.  The amount of synchronicity that happens on a daily basis – that I now notice mind you – is amazing!  For just one small example I will tell you a little story:

10 days ago now I decided to take a little early evening walk in the condo complex that I am living in, temporarily housed by a very generous and gracious friend by the name of Judy.  On that walk the first thing that I realized was that it was not only peaceful and quiet where I was staying, but the entire complex was like that (right in the middle of Central Austin!).

Not only that, but the mature trees everywhere, the landscaping, creeks and green space that surround the entire complex, friendly diverse residents,  and the natural beauty left me walking back home with a smile on my face and happiness within.  I felt blessed to simply live here for a while until I found a place of my own.

Then it happened.  That small whisper of guidance telling me to imagine that I did have a place of my own here….a home sanctuary where I could do my creative work and feel at peace within a community…and very close to everything that I frequent.  In fact not more than 10 minutes from organic food, yoga studio, spring fed lap pool, live music, culture, walking paths around the lake…well, you get the picture.

It should be noted that before I moved here I had been looking at lease listings near the downtown area and had set my sights on being right in the middle of everything.  Once here, I realized that perhaps that “must” should dissolve into “let’s see what unfolds itself”.  It was from that place of handing over that I took that walk.

The heart direction was obviously telling me to imagine myself living in the complex, but I took it one step further from leasing.  I expanded that vision to buying something in the complex (even though my current financial status would not indicate that was possible at all!)  It felt like the Divine Design that Richard speaks of was taking me down a path of discovery here.

When I returned back to the condo that I am currently staying at I spoke to Judy about how I felt about the complex on my walk and that I would like to consider leasing, or even buying a unit here.  She was thrilled and, of course, had a Home Owners Association newsletter right next to her and showed me the addresses of the units for rent and those to buy.  She suggested that perhaps I should contact my real estate agent and have her show me some properties that were for sale, and also call the owner of the one for lease.

I dutifully kept following through by my hearts GPS and e-mailed my real estate contact.  The owner for the unit for rent did not answer his phone, and there was surprisingly no message machine.  Going to bed imaging that I was living here in my own home sanctuary, I woke up in the morning to find a note on the refrigerator from Judy.  It said, “please include me in looking at the Hemingway property (one of the few single story units here) because I may buy it”!  Needless to say I laughed out loud.  Perhaps it wasn’t right timing for me to buy…but someone else was going to buy it and lease it to me!

Without getting any lengthier in this story I will just say that I have held the possibility of  living in this complex within me.  We did go see the Hemingway property, and a couple of others.  Within 3 days of my declaring that I was happily living here, Judy put an offer down on the single story 3- bedroom/2 bath  unit opening onto a green space with beautiful trees, and the sellers accepted it which was $11,000 less that what they had been asking for.

Judy gets here investment property, I receive a home sanctuary, and I am still smiling at the miracle that unfolded right before my eyes!  Listen to the heart directed inner guidance, take action from that guidance….and then hand it over.  It may not go exactly as you envisioned it to, but it will always be the right thing to happen for your highest good.

My mantra for each dayGuide me.  Protect me.  I will follow through from your guidance leading with my heart.  Thank you for your guidance that you give to me.  I am always open to receive more and more.  I surrender with courage, trust, faith, passion, and  arms open wide.

Would you like to live your life as if everything is a miracle?  Thanks Richard!

P.S.  Judy just told me she was able to lock in an interest rate at the low end which just changed today due to the economic climate here in the U.S.  I had written down that she would get an interest rate at 5% or less.  It was less: 4.75%!

Overcoming The Fear of Success

Dear Gaye,

Firstly, happy landings in your new home! I totally understand how you are feeling. It’s a common reaction for everyone who “takes the leap” into following intuition rather than logic. You’ve had years of following one way of doing things, so expect to feel the shifts happening in your body as it recalibrates.

On top of that you have moved to a new environment in a city where little is familiar. Relocating on its own (without free-flying from the job) puts various challenges in our paths, not least because everyone tells us how “stressful” it is. So how do you deal with the fears that rise up from your subconscious into your conscious mind?

Well, here are some immediate suggestions:

Firstly, deny the possibility of fatigue or dis-ease coming to you as a result of the move. Remember the phrase “Movement is the barometer of the soul” from last week? Your movements are constricted in some way, because of your natural fear of not having those things that you are used to around you. So, make a clear statement that affirms your health and energy (rather than focusing on not being tired). Repeat that statement until you feel its meaning seeping all the way from your fingertips to your toes. The feeling is the crucial part.

Secondly, use some of the stones or crystals that will help you. Some people smile at such advice, thinking it’s very “New Age”. It’s actually very old-age! Little is older than the rocks and crystals around us and if you stop to think about it, we’re all pretty much 100% crystalline. The water and blood in our bodies is crystalline, as are our brain cells, including those crystals of magnetite at the center of the brain. Magnetite is what give us our sense of direction, helping us “get home in the dark”. So, to help you find your new sense of direction, your “homing instinct”, try the following crystals/stones in whatever form works for you (rings, necklaces or simply unworked rocks).

Turquoise and onyx are the ones for you just now. Quite a color combo! They’ll help both lift your spirits and provide the foundation energy you are looking for. Wear them, have them out in your rooms, whatever works best. Both are the traditional birthstones of your birth month (although you won’t find that info on most sites about them).

Turquoise has been used for centuries as a healing stone. Being blue, it corresponds to the throat chakra so will help you find your voice in your new environment. It is also known as one of the truth stones. Speaking your truth (which is what you do so honestly and genuinely in this blog) is crucial to your ongoing success. It’s a part of you showing that you walk the walk whilst talking the talk. Turquoise is known to help ground the body, especially for those with wandering spirits (!) helping you to free your spirit by articulating things that are dear to your heart. Interestingly, it was often used to treat the lungs and respiratory system, so I suggest the best usage for this stone is to have a piece hung around your neck, reaching as close to your lungs/heart as possible.

Onyx on the other hand is a stone of self-mastery, helping you regain your vigor, strength and vibrancy. Not specifically a healing stone, it is appropriate for you more for its qualities of helping you release old patterns of thoughts/beliefs and protecting you from the fear that you’re feeling. It’s mystical number is 6, the number of material creation, but it corresponds both to the first and fifth chakras, meaning that it will not only help ground and calm you, it will also help the turquoise in giving you confidence to find and use your voice in a way that you have not felt free enough to do up to now.

Thirdly, wear red or rich terracotta colors when possible. Red, being the color of the first chakra, will be a great aid for your core energy.

On to the lungs: this is simply a reaction to the fear of moving into new territory. Remember the image of the dragonfly we used some weeks back? Well, you’re no longer crawling up the stem towards the surface of the pond. You’ve broken through, moving from liquid to air. You’re in a new environment. Nothing is quite the same. No job, no security of fixed income, no established friends in the area. Where is everything? How do you get acclimatised?

The answer is: everything you desire is at your fingertips. Don’t rush, hurry or worry. Take your time. Wisely and slow.

The dragonfly sits on that stalk for quite some time before its wings are dry enough for it to fly. It just sits and acclimatizes – and BREATHES! That’s the key here (and the reason for your lungs drawing attention to themselves): the requirement to simply breathe and be still for a moment. The temptation when we move home, especially when we have just left the job behind, is to rush at everything, especially in today’s world where everything is about “the need for speed”.

Take your time. Breathe. Acclimatize. This is an essential part of the process, a required hiatus before you spread your wings and “take off”.

It’s my guess that the last time you did something as huge as this was when you were born! That was the time when you last moved from liquid into air, when oxygen suddenly rushed down into your bronchial tubes and inflated your alveoli. You trusted the process then. You took that first breath. Yes, you may have screamed (knowing you, you probably gave a good ol’ holla!) but you carried on with the process, rather than crawling back into your mother’s womb.

In many ways you are going through a time of re-birth just now. So, keep the faith you had when you were in the womb. Keep the faith of the dragonfly as it sits waiting for its wings to dry. You will be flying soon enough.

One last thing: you say “I imagine that I must be ready.” Imagine instead that you ARE ready (must is usually a reductive word) and that everything is happening in perfect time. Imagine yourself experiencing all the elements of Natural Wealth right now: health, love, money, perfect self expressing and a contented spirit. Dwell on feeling success as having already been achieved. That way, you’re already there!

Until next time,

Love and best wishes,
Richard.

Someone Has Your Back

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” -Alan Watts

This evening in a restorative yoga class in my new home of Austin, Texas, where we did partner work in a Thai Massage style, the teacher in his quiet and grounded voice said, “you can let go now of those areas that you are holding onto. Trust that someone has your back”.  He had no idea how deeply this hit me in that moment.

It came to me quite clearly that although I have said to myself, you Richard, and others that I am in trust about the unfolding of my life, the truth of the matter is that there are parts of me that are showing up rather strongly now that have no idea how to trust, especially when it comes to monetary wealth streams – just one of the many energetic ways that wealth shows up in our lives.

Yes, this relocation to a new city – which was completely my choice mind you – represents an opportunity to practice the Universal Laws of Wealth and abundant living way beyond anything I  have ever done before.  I imagine that I must be ready.

Several things converged to make my first couple of days a little challenging including a rather bad case of bronchitis (I never get sick!) which started in the time I was in my “home” town of San Diego 4 days before my arrival here.   After that last post that you did Richard it gave me pause to see just where I might be contracting, and perhaps not in complete alignment with this chosen journey.

In addition, great change can be stressful and when our entire lives are dumped upside down (again by choice!) the emotional reactions can cause some imbalance in the body.  At these times we know that it is best to rest, but sometimes that may not be possible, or we may choose not to.

Coming back around to trust I have decided that the signs that “someone has our back” are around us all of the time!  From the day I quit the “job with benefits” on 7/1, to right now in this very moment I have been supported emotionally, physically, monetarily, spiritually, and basically taken care of in such an amazing way that I am still in awe!  Family, friends, strangers, and you Richard have been the signposts along the way letting me know that “someone has my back”.

This evening as my body relaxed against the young woman in the yoga class who was supporting me in a pose the flash of recognition came that I was holding on, contracting, and doubting that it was OK to really trust.  Not in the pose – but in my life!

My mind tells me that I have 3-4 weeks at most before some streams of income need to be coming in.  Watching over the last few days since I arrived here there is a mental hesitation (and endless inner calculations) about spending money – any money.

Yet my heart knows what is needed right now so the herbs and good organic produce for the bronchitis and for vital health, the special for unlimited yoga classes for my body, heart and soul for the next month, saying yes to receive from a friend here who is temporarily graciously housing me free of any monetary charge, and putting gas in my car to explore this amazing new place I have landed myself in are all part of the trust.

I have decided that really being in the moment with dis-trust and dis-ease is just as powerful as those moments when absolute trust is on board.   They are the life experiences which inform us that we are human….and crack us open to possibility.

So, I am plunging in, moving with it, and doing my own unique dance knowing that someone/something (force of Spirit) always has my back.   Now get up and dance with me to Eric Bibbs  Don’t Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down!  It’s all life!!

Health Messages From Within

Good Morning Gaye!

To return to health: in your last post you wrote: “When we are doing what we love and what “turns us on” I have learned that our bodies respond with increased energy and vital health. However, there are times when there is an imbalance present and we fall prey to some malady – hopefully minor like a headache or cold. Are there messages here as well?”

Absolutely!

The body is a finely-tuned instrument, constantly giving us feedback on the state of our mind and more importantly our spirit. Hence the expression to “keep your spirits up” meaning to keep yourself in good health.

In today’s world of rush, rush, rush there’s an imbalance in the emphasis placed on material solutions. These are usually quick fixes that rarely produce lasting solutions, not least because they address individual symptoms rather than looking at the body as a whole (which would include the aspects of mind and feeling as well as simply the physical). They simply suppress a symptom, rather than addressing the root cause, which is much the same as the fairy tale of the Princess and the Pea: putting a mattress on top of the others may mask the irritant for a while, but it never gets rid of the cause.

I could expand here about the pharmaceutical industry and how I see it, but you know about all that. It’s enough to say that the top six companies (in terms of worldwide revenue) are pharmaceutical companies and that their combined income exceeds the combined income of the next 94!

Back to treatment. Many older cultures knew the value of treating medical conditions through attending to the spiritual or non-physical side of life. So what is this non-physical part of life? Mostly it is your emotions, your feelings, the energy that creates movement in your cells. Some call it God, some the Life Force, but the labels don’t matter. All that’s important is to know that this Divine part of you is the one that sees the bigger picture.

If your body is the counter on the Boardgame of Life, your Divine Self is the one who picks up the dice and moves you around. When you follow your intuitions and inspirations without fear, you allow this Divine Self to lead you to the places and experiences that are most rewarding. But if you struggle against your intuitions, using logic to rationalize actions that are contrary to your Spirit, you’ll create health issues for yourself. This is, quite simply, because you are going against your Divine Self, your better nature. “To thine own self be true” is as good advice now as it was when William Shakespeare wrote it. The secret is to know that your spirit is as much as your “own self” as your body or mind…

One of the many wise men and women to have graced our planet once said: “Movement is the barometer of the soul.” This encapsulates what you are talking about when you mention the increased energy and vitality that you feel when you are doing what you love. How your cells are vibrating is a direct reflection of how you feel in heart and spirit. The greater the sense of spiritual integrity, balance and foundation, the stronger and more vibrant you’ll be! So, following the promptings of your heart is not just new age mumbo-jumbo: it’s a proven way to better health.

The science behind it is simple. When you do what you love, the movement of electricity inside your cells feels no resistance. You become a seamless conduit for the impulses emitted by your heart. The only thing that can break that circuit is a thought that encourages you to go against the promptings of your Divine Self. That is what creates dis-ease, which is literally a movement within your cells that runs contrary to the desires of your Divine Self. Your body, therefore, is the perfect instrument to tell you whether you are on track on not, whether you are paying attention to the messages that are all around us, or whether you are ignoring them!

Next time I’ll use this idea of the Barometer of the Soul to look at common aches and pains and see what they say about our emotional and spiritual states…and what you can do about them.

Until then – Dance, dance, wherever you may be!

Much love,
Richard.

Hawk Messages & The Path of Listening

Dear Gaye,

I was going to move on to different aspects of health, but your post about the hawk and messages from nature means we’ll walk a slightly different path today: the path of listening.

I’m completely with you on this one. We’re all brought messages from the world around us each and every day. The trick is to listen to them. And then act.

It’s funny you should have an experience with a bird when driving just a few weeks after my post about the thrush flying in front of my car, urging me to slow down (and avoiding a head-on collision as a result).

So let’s have a bit of a look at what hawk means, given you’ve chosen to move into Free Flight from the Free Fall of last week. That’s a big difference in energy between those two phrases. Flying freely is to be moving forwards with purpose, whereas falling freely is to simply be allowing gravity to do its work. So, you’ve turned an important corner, moving from the genuine “handing over” of self to the Divine Design to a state in which you are now taking action to walk your path and sing your song.

Here’s what “Hawk” means to me: having clear sight (being “hawk-eyed”), focusing on specific areas, being able to fly fast, to quickly change direction in mid-flight, having a certain, detached quality towards things (ie not being moved by everything) and being strong enough to grasp your food on the wing.

Being adaptable (changing direction in mid-flight) is one of the key elements for us all right now as we see big changes in the world: financially, climatically and emotionally too.

A hawk once flew right past me. I was getting out of my car and about to close the door when a small bird flew into the hedge that ran along our driveway. Right behind it was a large hawk. At the last moment the hawk realized it was not going to catch the smaller bird so it “hit the brakes”, flicking smoothly at a ninety-degree angle and flying between me and the hedge. It was no more than 18 inches from me as it passed by. For an instant I was looking into its eye. In that instant I felt the same feeling you and Dewitt are talking about in your last post: the moment of awe when we meet nature head on, when something wells up inside us like an irresistible wave, with joy, elation, wonder all wrapped up in equal measure.

The next moment the bird was gone, flashing past me and up and over the house so fast that I could barely believe it. It had held my gaze for less than a second, but I remember that feeling to this day.

Here are some other meanings of the word “hawk”:

As a verb, to hawk means to sell (particularly in a market place) and that seems appropriate to me, because you’re now moving into a time when you leave the day-job and start selling things in a new way. Selling gets a bad rap, but most of us have to do some when we run our own business. Hawking your own wares is to do so without fear, without inhibition.

So, one message might be to have full confidence in your talents and in the value of your service: to shout out loud to the world rather than being so quiet that no one hears you. Not that you have to be brash. There’s a big difference between confidence and arrogance and we’re both on the same page when it comes to being humble.

Another interesting meaning of the word hawk is that of a small board or tray on which mortar is mixed when building a house. I love this meaning for you, because mortar is what glues things together, helping a house stand for a long time, keeping it dry and weatherproof. It’s also the origin of the word mortar-board, the hats people wear when they graduate from college. So, Gaye, it seems you have graduated from one school of learning and are entering another!

I’ve saved the best for last…

You and I have a love of mythology and symbols. My course Natural Wealth delves into ways in which magic and metaphysics can be brought into daily life and it seems to me that you’ve been given a powerful message here that you are “on the right track” as the person responsible for gathering together the “online family” of people who are interested in applying the simple Laws that are the backbone of Natural Wealth.

Here’s why:

Let’s cast our minds back a few thousand years to the time of the pharaohs and one of the most well-known of all symbols: the Eye of Horus.

In Egyptian mythology Horus is the hawk-headed god who was born to Isis. He and she are often shown in statues in a way echoed much later by those of Mary with the baby Jesus. Like Jesus, Horus is the product of divine conception.

The Eye of Horus was a symbol for resurrection, power, protection and health! Perfect, given the topic of our last posts.

The Right Eye was the one usually shown (which indicates the masculine side, the more logical) in old iconography. This represented many things, but high amongst the list was the meaning of “one who does”: someone who takes action. To the Egyptians the eye was active, not passive. The Right Eye also symbolized Ra, god of the Sun.

The Left Eye was representative of the Moon, the feminine and more intuitive side of human nature. This eye also represented Thoth, the god credited with being the first “master architect”, the one who brought learning and understanding to the world. Again, perfect for you just now.

In Natural Wealth I have tried to balance methods applicable to both male and female readers, appealing to both the intuitive and the logical parts of the brain. Balance to me is the most important key to success, because it is in the balancing of our masculine and feminine sides that we become most effective (in business, in health, in love and in expressing ourselves). That balance extends to an acceptance of the spiritual, divine or super-natural as a part of every day life.

The Eye of Horus itself contained many hidden numerological and geometrical meanings, but perhaps the most important of these is that it stood for the number 1, which is the number of beginnings and of self-knowledge.

Another fun resonance is that there were originally 7 different hieroglyphs that represented the eye – nicely corresponding with the 7 elements of health we talked about last week!

I could expand here, but we are entering a field that stretches past the horizon of a single post, so I’ll leave you with the thought that the Eye of Horus also represented a goddess called Wadjet whose name derives from the Egyptian word “wadj” which means “green” (we see this today in the word wadi, a green oasis in the desert sands).

Green is the central colour of the seven chakras, the middle pillar. It is located in the heart, which is where you felt your huge welling of emotion as the hawk flew by. The heart is the centre of all creation (our thoughts coming only as a result of what we feel, not the other way round) and the Eye of Horus includes the teardrop image within it: an image for the heart’s compassion within strength. Green, of course, stands for growth and vitality too…

This is where you say to me, “Hey Richard, all this is contained in one moment as I drove back from working-out?” and I say “Absolutely! All this and more is contained in each and every moment. The lessons are always there, flooding to us thick and fast. And our amazing hearts and minds process all of this every second, each day!”

The trick is to listen, to take note and then take action. So, today’s affirmation might be “I never miss a trick!”

With that I’ll leave you to enjoy your last day of “work”!

Next week we can come back to some of the specific questions about health that you asked.

Love and best wishes,
Richard.

Free Flight

“There are times when wind is howling
and the ocean is roaring so loud
you can’t hear your own cries of delight.
When layer upon layer of beauty press on you with such force
that you barely have the courage to press the shutter.
                                                        – Dewitt Jones

This may seem like a strange response to your last post Richard, but Dewitt, who is a world-renowned photographer, has touched me with the beauty and depth of his photography and words so many, many times.  This just so happened to be the e-mail photo and words of the day.  I received it after the event I speak of below.

As I was driving home, just moments ago, from a great weight training and swim workout with music loud enough to make my body want to move some more, a very large hawk flew directly across my windshield in perfect timing for me to feel the free flight energy (versus the free fall!) and for her to give me the indisputable message – fly free as you become “gainfully unemployed”!

As Dewitt’s quote above reflects I was in absolute awe of this creature of nature and her message to me.  I did cry out in delight, and it was challenging to hold all of the energy that flowed in within that particular moment in time.

Nature often brings us messages.  In fact I would say it constantly brings us messages if we will open our eyes, ears, and heart to receive them.  I was blessed to have received such a powerful message today as I start my very last week in a conventional job.  (last day on 7/1!)

As nature brings us daily messages so does our body.  Your 7 simple suggestions for health are a great reminder! You are correct in that I do all of them, but occasionally forget when I most need to remember!  Just the simple return to increased water intake resolved much of my “crash and burn” syndrome at the end of the 10-hour work day.

That is not to say that this work environment is good for me over all, but at least I am able to finish out the last few days with simple gratitude for the energy I do possess.  This is the life energy that will now go into creative livelihood, and I suspect it will skyrocket!

When we are doing what we love, and what “turns us on” I have learned that our bodies respond with increased energy and vital health.  However, there are times when there is an imbalance present and we fall prey to some malady – hopefully minor like a headache or cold.   Are there messages here as well?

So here I am drinking more water, and my attention is on “free flight” with the ability to touch down or change direction at any time I so desire.  The “free fall” was perhaps more about letting go of control and served its purpose.  Now at this point in the journey it feels good to see the texture, patterns, and lay of the land so to speak from a bird’s eye view, and have curiosity and my heart lead the way for the next stages of this journey.

Thank you for your presence in my life!

Always Love,

Gaye

Dragonfly Message

Dear Gaye,

Yes, as the leap gets closer and closer, those fingers are likely to reach ever-more-frequently for the dark chocolate. And that’s just fine. Enjoying the taste of life (in all its forms) is a blessing.  I guess the trick is to find what you are looking for in the chocolate (the comfort and reassurance) inside you as you go through this huge shift.

We can talk another time about synchronicities and coincidences (the latter, by the way, are literally just that: co-incidents). These happen more and more when you go with the flow, or “follow the weft” as I call it. For today, however, I’d like to bring an image that may help you to be non-resistant through the coming weeks. It’s not a new image (are there any?) but it seems appropriate for you just now.

Think of yourself as a dragonfly. Dragonflies spend two years in larval state, immersed in a lifestyle very different to the one for which they are destined. Beneath the surface of a pond they swim about, hunting for food, surrounded by sub-aquatic life forms. We cannot know how happy or otherwise they are in this state. All we know for sure is that they just “get on with it”.

Then a day dawns when something happens to thrust them into a totally new way of doing things. Instinct prompts them to crawl up the nearest stem. Without questioning why, they inch their way higher and higher up that stem, travelling much further than they ever have before. A few moments later, they emerge through the surface of the pond into a new environment. Suddenly they are surrounded by air instead of liquid. Unperturbed, they sit quietly, waiting: trusting in the outcome.

As the sun rises in the sky the dragonfly larva is warmed by its rays. And now it undergoes a remarkable transformation. The old husk or outer skin falls away and from it emerges the scintillating long-winged creature, sparkling with greens, blues, reds and golds that we are all familiar with. Is there pain involved in this process? Perhaps. Sloughing off its familiar skin must be at very least unusual. It’s the first time anything like this has happened.

For a few minutes the newly formed dragonfly continues to cling to the stem, the umbilical cord linking it to its old life beneath water. It is not yet ready to take flight. During these minutes its body quivers, its wings (the vehicles of transport that it will now use) vibrating with energy. When it is ready, it launches itself off the stem, flying up and out into a life lived in an entirely new environment.

Think of that tiny creature for a moment. Up until that time it has had no notion of the “world above”. It has been satisfied to dwell beneath the surface of the pond, bound by the parameters of sub-aquatic life. Does it have an inkling that a different life is in store for it? We can’t know that for sure. But what we do know is that it does not resist the transformation that lies in wait. It follows the calling of its instincts without hesitation. It trusts in the outcome, even though it cannot comprehend the full extent of the changes it is about to experience.

Much the same happens to us when we are born. Each and every human on the planet was once familiar with a life surrounded by liquid. Yet each of us emerges from life in the womb to suck in great gasps of air, eschewing the umbilical cord that has supported us for the past nine months as we transform ourselves into beings that walk, talk and eat in a whole new way.  Yes, birth is a challenge: but we do it anyway, because it is the only way we can live the life that is destined for us at our conception.

Right now, you are undergoing a birth of sorts. You are casting off the umbilical cord (the support system of a “regular job”) just as surely as you did when you emerged from your mother’s womb. You are being drawn irresistibly up the stem into a new world, like the dragonfly in our image.

I would say that right now you are at the stage where you are still heading up the stem, immersed in the liquid of the old way of life. Keep going. The journey to the surface is not so long and it is worth the effort. For the result will be that you are able to dovetail creating income with health, love and perfect self-expression: all of which are essential ingredients of Natural Wealth.

A final thought for you:

It is as the fully formed creature that flies in air that the dragonfly expresses itself most completely, its iridescent colours shining brightly in the morning sun, its flight sure and definite. It is in its new life above water that it meets other dragonflies, one of which it will mate with in order to create the next generation of dragonflies, all of whom will spend most of their time beneath water, but are all of whom are destined to rise into the air in much the same way as humans are.

Trust in the message of the dragonfly, Gaye. It is a message of non-resistance. Relax and enjoy the process (and eat as much chocolate as you like!). When you relax and smile you are showing yourself and others that you do not resist the changes you are going through. And that makes you a magnet for all that is good in life, because when you no longer resist life’s challenges you become truly irresistible!

To put it another way, bear in mind the old proverb: “A man who cannot smile should not open a shop!”

Until next time, much love,
Richard.
