Soul Musings/Day 27: Play Vitality

10846502_834966916560314_2269207103011411818_n

Have you ever noticed people who haven’t lost their delight in pure and simple play?

How old they are seems to recede into the background and who they are in essence strides forward.

That innocent, creative, childlike energy residing in all of us.

Allowing play to emerge cracks open a space of spontaneous open awareness where anything goes…and sometimes does!

A space where the parts we often hide get to, you got it, come out and play!

There is something that happens in this wide open space that leaves us wondering why everything is taken so seriously.

What if play is the catalyst for spiritual awakening….or even wealth.

Would you play more?

Soul Musings/Day 19: Seeing With Your Heart

10478229_10152519270735804_509609860531556670_n

From time to time I have pondered what it would be like to be blind. I thought that losing the ability to see with my eyes might rip away a cherished part of being alive for me.

I once attended an evening dinner performance done in total darkness with the guides that lead us into the room, the servers that brought our food, and the musicians that played music to fill our souls – were all blind. Some from birth and others lost along the way in their life journey.

There were many things that stood out for me, but the most important awareness was the intimacy that occurred with the people who were seated at the same table, the collaboration that unfolded, and the intensity of life felt, heard, tasted, touched but not seen.

The fullness of life lived not from visual sight, but instead from all other senses, heightened during the two hours of this experience. Bringing me closer to Being in the all-encompassing moment than I have ever been.

They taught me what “having sight” is all about – seeing from the heart of life….

Soul Musings/Day 16: Reflect on Beauty

img_2356_s_copy

One of my favorite photographers, Dewitt Jones, has a gift of bringing beauty to the forefront in his “What Is Right With The World” daily photographic meditation.

This is not to say that there isn’t suffering, violence and great injustice occurring on our planet.

Rather it may be the beauty surrounding us, even in the smallest of ways, that holds the space for the courage to step into those places and make a difference.

Beauty brings us a reflection of our Soul as reminder that everything changes and is impermanent.

Not only does the beauty shift and change, but also the observer of the beauty and the one who is observing the observer. Like the sunset above.

The photographer witnesses the sunset through the observing of the lens.

Nature holds the space to behold….

Soul Musings/Day 14: Paradise

Music and nature one and the same

In sacred union that captures the soul

Dancing with elemental alchemy

Partnered moments of ecstatic expression

What is it that sings in our Soul

Awaiting our invitation

Like red dirt sifting through our hand

Opening the door to paradise… we walk in.

Soul Musings/Day 1: Opening Into Generosity

10003882_10202013114648399_4505803877569413729_n

Generosity rises and falls within us as we contract and expand. What if life itself nourished us so that we trusted contraction would always reveal the next expansion – as the breath. Whether giving out or receiving in it is named generosity. One feeds the other.

Why flay ourselves with thoughts of not being enough. Soul continually whispering in our ear to make love with this life we have been given. Being generous reveals entire worlds of interconnection that only open up when we say yes. What about right now?

Risk or Possibility?

Anaisquote

RISK OR POSSIBILITY?

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the word “risk” I often feel a physical reaction in my body. My stomach clamps down just a little, my breath stops or becomes shallow, and my shoulders and jaw tense.

Upon looking it up in Wikipedia I found there were two definitions that drew my attention:

1) “Risk is the potential of losing something of value. Values (such as physical health, social status, emotional well being or financial wealth) can be gained or lost when taking risk resulting from a given action, activity and/or inaction, foreseen or unforeseen.”

2) “Risk can also be defined as the intentional interaction with uncertainty.”

The first definition puts the emphasis on loss by the very first sentence. It makes up for it in the last sentence, but you are left with the overall feeling of potentially “losing something”.

The second definition makes it an effective action that you take with full attention and letting go, or surrendering, into the relationship with uncertainty. This could also be called trusting what is unfolding.

This last brings more spaciousness in the body, whereas the first one could provoke the reaction of clamping down preparing for “battle with the powers that be”. A relationship with uncertainty seems to exist every moment of our lives no matter how much we might wish to control things. It could be seen as the very nature of existence.

Having dedicated the 66th year of my life to “living fearlessly” during a ritual standing in the waters of the Pacific ocean in July, the ever present “risks” are now seen as a vehicle for opportunity and possibility. That isn’t to say that my old patterns of “security” and “survival” don’t show up, but at least they have a louder voice that I can hear versus the stealth maneuvers they have done in the past.

An example of this showed up this past Sunday morning during my Gentle Yoga here in Austin. Now this class could be seen as a “risk” unto itself as one never quite knows what the focus of the class will be or what the practice will hold. Rather like life…..thank you to my yoga teacher Keith!!

This day the class was focused on risk and exploring edges…. was definitely not all that gentle, and supplied a multitude of opportunities to choose to move into edges or “stay safe”.

The peak of the class for me was in a two partner assist where we were to choose between two poses to be assisted and supported in. One was something that I knew I could do easily and though may take me into some new territory, was definitely not a “risk”.

The other one was a pose that I hadn’t done for years as it takes upper body strength to push into from the floor, which I have let go of as I have aged. There was no going back and forth between the two in the decision making process.

5350316_l-1024x652I knew immediately that the assisted wheel (from standing into a backbend arch coming down with hands on the floor) was to be the one by the energy flow that moved through me when I considered them.

As I felt my two assistants attempt to support me in the best way they knew how I put my total attention on the movement of my spine and the breath. Suddenly there was another pair of hands assisting (my teacher Keith) which created spaciousness for me to celebrate coming into this pose with relative ease and mindful movement.

In those moments a space opened up within. It wasn’t only being in the pose, but the additional after effects from trusting the moment to moment movement of my body, the breath guiding me, and the hands and hearts assisting me.

The joy that I felt and the opening of spaces within spilled over to my assistants who greeted me with brilliant smiles as I came up out of the pose.

Now as some of you know I practice as a yoga teacher/therapist thus in this “risk” I was asked to move out of the “personal” (proving that I know what I am doing, the realm of good/bad, right/wrong, etc..) and instead trust that the unfolding would take me where I was to go.

Let’s just say that is a MUCH LARGER space to play and blossom in!

Remembering Peace Through Nature and Art

530369_10151220293073635_1341380583_nSnow mandalas by Simon Beck, image in his name©2012, all rights reserved

Dear Brave Souls: Rest your mind and body by gazing upon symmetry that is so beautiful. The neurons in our brains and bodies fire and remember peace and order when gazing on peace and order, in this case pattern that holds, yet sways so 394934_565203466827507_1552033351_nbeautifully. You heard what I said: our bodies and minds remember peace when we gaze on peace. “- Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Whether it be a “Ta Da” life moment list of milestones and accomplishments, insights, new knowledge, and self-revelations  from the year just past, done as a ritual as a new year dawns….or a way of breathing that releases anxiety and brings peace,  self value and awareness to the moment…there is no doubt that what we all need more of this coming year is a sense of peace and deep rest within our minds, bodies and 184453_536096156408173_1154827173_nhearts.

Nature and art in all of its varied forms is ever at our disposal to bring us not only a respite from the business and chaos of our

lives, but a reminder of who we are at our very core.

Be still, gaze upon the creations that are all around you.  Be at peace knowing that you have been brought here for a purpose that is interconnected with all that is around you.  If we can drink deeply of these myriad of gifts….then there is hope for our present moment and the moments to come

NATURAL WEALTH by Richard Cawte, Ph.D.naturalwealth3dsmall-222x300

A Holy Curiosity

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein ~

Following up on the last post here this quote by Albert Einstein above (as well as the marvelous picture!) takes us into contemplation of the juiciness of curiosity.  Is curiosity not a vehicle for being in the moment?

Our lives often contrive to squish us down into survival mentality, yet what miracles there are all around us to be curious about!  Einstein exemplified what he calls “holy curiosity” and never stopped learning, growing, and sharing his thoughts, reflections and wisdom with the world.

Perhaps you cry out, “there is not time to explore or be curious”.  But what if you took this exact moment and looked around you.  Expanded out of the tight thoughts of the mind, looked with a soft gaze, fell into your next inhale and exhale and became curious about the interconnectedness of yourself with your surroundings.

Curious about the expansiveness of this one very moment and everything that is contained within it.  Allow the questions to arise and let them seduce you into exploring ever more deeply.  Interact with others within this curiosity, not having to be the one to “have the right answer”.  What if there isn’t a “right answer”?

What if the true journey is to arrive and arrive and arrive and arrive…at a new awareness through this holy curiosity and expansion delighting in the mystery of it all.

Since everything is always moving and changing this gives us a virtual playground of curiosity to explore!  It is almost like being on that roller coaster with the monks in the last post or riding the crest of a wave!  Every ride is different…… an unlimited territory to reflect upon and experience.

Are you finding your life dull and repetitive?  Try on just a tad of Einstein’s “holy curiosity”!

The Natural Wealth Course by Richard Cawte, Ph.D.

http://resonancewithlife.com/natural-wealth-course/

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice —
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do —
determined to save
the only life you could save.
~ Mary Oliver ~

The intimate connection between ourselves, others and each life form that inhabits this planet, and beyond, has gained more and more recognition.  Our collective memories, both individual and from the past, oftentimes keep us stuck in the shame that Richard spoke of in the last post.  These embodied emotional and physical traumas leak body memories to our consciousness that have us forgetting the very nature of who we are.

In yoga class this morning we were asked to listen to the poem above by Mary Oliver and move from a place of remembering – remembering who we are – without the voices from the past or the ones of the present directing the particular life moment.  Often our eyes were closed as we stepped into the flow of what was unwinding from our core – instead of someone else’s direction.

What is it like to follow that inner knowing, dropping silently inside capturing the whisperings of that inner insistence on the uniqueness of truth, movement, actions, and feelings in any one moment.  What are we afraid of?  Or is it that we can hardly hear the  voice of our own unique being for all the demands and stimulus around us.

Yes, the only life we can save – living as uniquely as possible – is our own.  There are more and more moments these days when I feel the solid strength of what this is like.   One of those places is hanging out on an ecstatic dance floor where the “rule” is to have no self imposed restrictions, but instead to explore, listen and move from that place of complete connection to the greater energy that moves us all.

Old patterns of being and moving melt away as the intention for everyone on the dance floor becomes a moving art piece of breath, movement, contact, exploration, play and absolute love and respect.  For someone that loves dance it is a “home coming” to the deepest parts of who we are.

The film Jane’s Journey, shows us someone who listened to her own unique voice in spite of what others might have wanted for her.  For someone like Jane Goodall it was a simple very deeply felt passion that moved her as a young woman to follow her childhood dreams.  Now at 78 she is still traveling the world speaking her truth and impacting millions of people to care for each other and our planet in the most compassionate, loving and peaceful of ways.

What price is taken when we step away from the journey that is uniquely our own?  We become lost in the thoughts and actions of others and forget that we have come here to create and love as only we can do and be.  Today a young man who had never received flowers from a woman was gifted with a single flower of beauty as he sat at his check out stand at the local organic food store.  This happened because I heard loud and clear the voice that directed me to take this loving action as I left the store the first time I was there. What impact did this have?  Let’s just say I am still smiling….and I am certain so is he.

Choose a journey that reflects the magnificence of who you are and do not listen to anyone or anything that takes you away from that knowing!

Listen….

Surrendering to Emergence

Dear Richard,

Emerging is a theme that is happening constantly all around us.  Whether it is transforming within embodied form or  passing on to become part of the vibration and energy that is a part of all change.  Everything is interacting with everything else and co-creation emerges.

Your last post Richard points the way to this within and without of the emergence that is constantly present.  This unseen rhythm is felt, and somehow is becoming more real to many of us as we remember the deep interconnection that orients all of life.

It is just this that I want to give a personal example of from last night.    Let’s just say that events of the last few days have conspired to test my awareness and my willingness to be out of balance.  Black and white anxiety based thinking, and ego driven control resulted in what I call a “crash and burn” syndrome tipping me way off center.

It is not important what the “crash and burn” details are, but more relevant are the ways in which I was informed that being out of balance had some definite rewards and rich territory within to explore.  Releasing attachment to being “in” balance brought me back  “in balance” if you can believe that!  It also brought experiences  that will serve well the next time a tidal wave comes into my life!  And there will be those times for all of us.

What I couldn’t see, feel or even conceptualize was right there within the territory of imbalance.  After a few days of dwelling in this place of imbalance an event happened that took me so far into an emotional outpouring that my black and white thinking and presupposed conception of what next steps to take were shattered.  Other possibilities then emerged…and I surrendered.

Last night was the second night in my new home sanctuary here in Austin, Texas.  There is quite a bit of space as no furniture or other niceties of home have been placed or chosen yet.  Now I could be in a hurry to get this remedied (black and white thinking) or I could surrender to the feeling of spaciousness and light coming into and out of this dwelling surrounded by trees and green space.

I chose the latter – and nature contrived to send me numerous messages within my dream and awakened sleep time.  There was a visitation.  Right about now you may be thinking that I am certainly crazy, but I do believe that it isn’t until we remove ourselves from a rigid cultural and past experience controlled perception of how and when we should think and act that we can truly open into our lives.

I was visited by what I call the Spirit of the Breath….and the force and flow of the rain.  Deep in the wee hours of the night my entire being was aware of “being breathed”.  There was absolutely no effort involved and the freedom and sensual feeling was way beyond what I experience in my day-to-day life.  All breathing spaces within my body were expanding softly, fully, powerfully and with grace and absolute ease.

The pleasure and ease of being breathed is what I believe we innately are coming to as the global shift speeds up.  As we individually and mutually agree to move into and out of balance deep trust will emerge that we will find our way.

Our breath moves out of shallow, holding and contracted states in order for the Earth and all life to heal.  We are living in and connected to a breathing Earth and are a direct reflection of what is going on throughout the cosmos. We are the Earth.

Woken up from within this deep breathing state the rain came next pouring through my open sliding door reminding me to come back home to flow.  Informed by this water element, of which we are a major part, that there is a way around obstructions by surrendering to the pathway that is always to be found.  Going out of our way at times…… trusting that the larger Source always calls us home.

Natures messages and the rhythm of my own breath remain signposts along the way as a reminder to come home to the possibilities imbedded in each moment.  Are we waking up and collaboratively emerging? Or are we demanding control, in denial,  or running away?  I trust that I am part of the first group.  How about you??

With Love,

Gaye
