Free Fall – Will The Parachute Open?

The next question could be  – Is there a parachute at all?!  I have never jumped from an airplane, but the present journey that I am on feels like I have, and I am not quite certain that I have put on a parachute – or even more, if I even need one!

Talking to some friends last week on one of those rare sunny days in Portland, Oregon we decided that there are many possibilities here.  Yes, there may be a parachute, or maybe one isn’t even needed, for perhaps there is nothing to fall or crash into. Maybe we sprout wings on the way down….or maybe we aren’t falling down, but moving sideways or up for that matter!

Life may just be a continuous free fall and we either enjoy the ride, or panic and attempt to stop our fall by forgetting to trust.  Just maybe the fall itself is the journey and all we have to do is become one with it.  Well, I am not certain yet what it is, but life is teaching me a thing or two these days.

Lofty words indeed for I have to admit that I have not perfected the free fall just yet – though I am staying as conscious as possible during the faster parts!  When I reach for that dark chocolate one too many times with 16 days left until I am “unemployed”, I know that there is a little bit of anxiety going on.  Now there is nothing wrong with dark chocolate – oh how I love it – but there is a place in me that yearns to be reassured that everything is going to be OK…..and for the few moments of delicious surrender I know that everything is as it should be.  What I want is to know that place inside of me all the time….with or without the chocolate!

Richard talked about two things in his last post that are recurrent themes for me on this path to natural wealth.  The first is resistance and the second synchronicity.  I have found that they both can be great teachers, just in different ways.   A couple of years ago now I wrote a chapter in a book called “Resistance Is Futile, and A Doorway To Freedom” (Conscious Entrepreneurs, Edited by Christine Kloser) .  During this time I kept being presented with opportunities to feed my resistance (fear/scarcity), or to step into it and see what was behind the good old resistance door # 1.

The funny thing is that I find stepping through the resistance doorway always leads to a fall into the realm of possibility, opportunity, and new awareness.  Now if you are visual here you can imagine what that might look like!  Alice falling down the rabbit hole??

This of course is part of Natural Wealth.  That good old saying, “what you resist, persists” means to me that someone is using a whole lot of energy holding back from an experience, person, or feeling when instead they can choose to either engage or to walk away.   That is – take action instead of staying stuck!

My example in the chapter was a many years resistance to a style of yoga that I thought was not yoga at all but a workout, and boring in its repetition at that.  Of course I was constantly being faced to engage with it when my yoga students would ask me whether I had any opinion about  this style of yoga.

What I found as I said yes to this practice (instead of judging what I had never personally experienced), and stepped into the 100 degree room that first time, is that when it comes right down to it the melting (literally!) of resistance was a step into freedom.

My energy was not tied up in resisting, I learned that there were parts of the practice that I benefited from immensely,  and I was learning that surrender in the moment was much more enlightening and leads to freedom of choice.  Once I was more open synchronicity started to play out in my life much more than usual.  In fact I was invited to teach a class on breathing at this very same yoga studio which expanded the practice for everyone.

Let’s just say that resistance cannot be a part of my present journey at all, and because of that synchronicity (not a result of cause and effect) is playing out in a big way!  Part of wealth is to pay attention to the constant flow in and out of our lives of signs, signals, symbols and synchronicity.   Letting go of the resistance not only seems to enhance the frequency of synchronicity, but it sharpens our senses of perception.

Some people dismiss synchronicity as coincidence, but I see and feel it as grace and a definite sign post on the path to Natural Wealth.  Not a day passes that I don’t see, feel and experience synchronicity. It is difficult to single out just one incident,  but here is an example.

Out of the blue a man that I had know briefly when I was in a yoga ashram 7 years ago, found me on Facebook and asked to “be my friend”.  I recognized who it was and of course said yes which gave him access to e-mail me.

This man has, for the past few years, been a global traveler and currently is living in Columbia, South America.   As we shared life journeys he found that I was to take a leap to a new home and was quitting my job. He thought that I might want to be in touch with a few other people that were at the ashram at the same time as I was, so he alerted a couple of them.

Very soon I heard from a woman whom I had also know at the ashram saying that she lived in Tecate, Mexico now and was teaching yoga at a resort.  If I was ever down that way she would love to see me.

As it turns out my trip towards my new home has a stop in San Diego (my home town) and the resort she works at is only a short distance from there across the border.  I have been invited to have a free overnight at the resort which is only a couple of days after my birthday.  Synchronicity or coincidence?

So here is an idea:  How about a Free Fall Into The Resistance??
